ABOUT
With each of our carefully designed projects and programs, Citizens Energy strives to have a positive impact on the local populations affected by construction. Citizens Wind was founded to change the relationship between commercial wind projects and the communities they touch by creating socially responsible partnerships to develop new utility-scale wind projects throughout the United States and Canada.

OFFSHORE WIND
Citizens Energy has a strategic partnership with major wind energy developer Vineyard Wind on a massive offshore wind farm.
VINEYARD WIND PARTNERSHIP
Citizens Energy forged a strategic partnership in 2018 with Vineyard Wind, developer of the first large-scale offshore wind project in North America. The 800-megawatt project, to be built in ocean waters 14 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard, will supply Massachusetts with a massive infusion of renewable energy and make the Bay State a national leader in the wind industry. Once the project is operational, Citizens will manage $1 million in annual funding for 15 years from Vineyard Wind to finance energy affordability and resiliency projects in communities impacted by the wind farm. Projects financed by the Resiliency and Affordability Fund will include energy efficiency upgrades in multi-family low-income housing, solar and energy storage projects and microgrids to enhance energy security and reliability in public buildings.

INTERNATIONAL WIND
Citizens Energy works with communities across international borders to build wind projects that are cross-culturally beneficial.
INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT PARTNERSHIPS
Citizens Energy’s first wind projects prioritized local community interests with the development of 233 megawatts of clean energy from northern New York (Munnsville) into Canada (Mistissini Cree First Nations). Both projects, now sold, provide hundreds of thousands of dollars to local municipalities in land-lease agreements.

Citizens Energy is committed to ensuring equitable access to green energy through partnerships and advocacy work with First Nations across North America.

NATIVE WIND
The Native Wind initiative was created to unlock access to renewable energy resources for Native American tribes across the country. Citizens Energy has worked with tribes from Maine to South Dakota to Arizona on wind proposals containing ownership benefits for First Nations. We continue to work with the Mistissini Cree tribe, in Northern Quebec, to develop green power to benefit one of the most vulnerable populations in North America.
