The Citizens Energy Natural Gas Heat Assistance Program was created for people who are struggling to pay their natural gas heating bills.
The Citizens Energy Natural Gas Assistance Program began in the early 1980’s, when Citizens Energy launched the first independent natural gas marketing program in the country. Citizens Energy Corporation used the profits from this venture to provide fuel assistance to low-income families in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky. In cooperation with Columbia Gas, Citizens Energy continues to underwrite the gas utility bills of households in Kentucky.
In 2007, Citizens Energy began working with Distrigas to provide heating assistance to Massachusetts households. Over the last 30 years, Citizens Energy has provided more than $20 million in assistance to over 150,000 families.
Citizens Energy Natural Gas Heat Assistance Program aims to ease the burden of low-income families in Massachusetts who need more than federal fuel assistance to keep up with their energy bills.
